EMMITSBURG, MD (September 26, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's men's soccer recorded four goals for the second consecutive match, as the Mountaineers earned a decisive 4-0 win over the Iona Gaels Saturday from Waldron Family Stadium at the PNC Sports Complex.
Christian Kyriacou finished with a brace, bookending the scoring for the Mount with a first half strike and the last goal of the game.
Abou Cherif scored his second goal in as many matches, and
Oliver Barta clipped in his first goal as a Mount St. Mary's player.
The Mount defense limited the Gaels to two shots on goal, with
Ryan Collins saving both attempts to snag the clean sheet.
Mount St. Mary's is off to a 2-0 Metro Conference start for the second time in three seasons. Combined with the 4-3 win over Marist last weekend, the Mount secured back-to-back four goal games for the first time since 1994, when that year's team defeated UMES 8-0, and Goucher 5-1.
HOW THE MATCH UNFOLDED
- Kyriacou's first goal came in the 25th minute, as Lincoln Bauer's cross found the sophomore's head, flicking the shot in the left corner.
- Iona's Florian Schutt denied Cherif a goal scoring opportunity, forcing the administration of a red card and putting the Gaels down a man.
- All three second half strikes came in a five-minute span. Cherif scored unassisted in the 71st minute.
- 80 seconds later, Barta scored from the top of the box via a pass from Oliver Jorgensen.
- In the 74th minute, Kyriacou had his brace, as Noah Kaiser and Bauer worked the ball to him on the left side of the box.
