POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (September 19, 2026) – With a wild second half of offensive scoring, Mount St. Mary's prevailed in the Metro Conference opener over Marist, 4-3.
Abou Cherif supplied the winning goal, set up by a brace from
Daniel Morales Silva.
Lincoln Bauer opened the scoring for the Mountaineers and assisted on both Morales Silva tallies.
Noah Kaiser and
Oliver Jorgensen helped with the scoring by providing assists.
Cherif scored his first goal of the season, and Bauer posted the first of his career. Morales Silva leads the team with three goals.
With the result, the Mount is 1-2-4 for the campaign and starts conference 1-0, against a Marist team that earned a playoff preseason prediction.
HOW THE MATCH UNFOLDED
- Marist was the first to score as Caio Cavaletti collected a goal in the 26th minute.
- Bauer's goal came in the 41st minute, flicking a shot in the right corner past Red Foxes goalkeeper Gavin Mitlitski.
- The Mount got its first lead on Morales Silva's first goal. Bauer found his teammate on the far end of a corner kick.
- The Red Foxes scored twice in quick succession to surge back ahead. Mani Diop scored his team leading fourth goal in the 72nd minute, followed by Chris Verheul in the 76th minute.
- Morales Silva wasted no time in equalizing, taking advantage of a second chance. After Mitlitski made a save on a Cherif attempt, Morales Silva corralled the rebound and planted the shot in the left corner.
- Cherif collected a pass from Jorgensen in the 83rd minute and delivered the game-winning strike from the right side of the box.
