EMMITSBURG, MD (August 20, 2026) – Eight members of the starting 11 for Mount St. Mary's men's soccer made their Division I debuts in the 2026 season opener. The entire unit, along with substitutes, impressed in battling Binghamton to a 0-0 draw Thursday.
Leading the group was a tremendous defensive effort that held back a worthy Bearcats offense, with back line starters
Noah Kaiser,
Anthony Fanelli,
Jayson Salvador, and
Thomas Dix, and excellent play from goalie
Ryan Collins. The sophomore goalie recorded three saves and made several other key plays in his first collegiate appearance.
The moment of the match came in the 53
rd minute. Collins recorded back-to-back saves from a crouched position on attempts from Jona Meiner and Anninos Nicolaou.
Binghamton led in shots 12-9, but the Mount led four to three in shots on goal.
Daniel Morales Silva had the most Mount shots with three.
The positive result is the first for Mount St. Mary's against Binghamton on their fourth try. It also matches the initial result of 2025, when the team tallied a 2-2 draw at Navy.
HOW THE GAME UNFOLDED
- Oliver Brown provided an early chance with a shot on goal in the second minute. Morales Silva followed with another chance in the 18th minute.
- Christian Kyriacou registered a third chance at the goal in the 27th minute, which was again saved by Binghamton goalie Natan Jemaneh Admassu.
- After Collins recorded his pair of saves in the 53rd minute, he made his third a little over ten minutes later on an attempt from D.T. Megliola.
- The eight Mountaineers who made their first Division I starts were Collins, Kaiser, Morales Silva, Salvador, Lage Ekra-Reistad, Thomas Dix, Felix Alschner, and Lincoln Bauer. Substitutes Oliver Jorgensen, Kostas Pateritsas, and Leo Romero Sonesson also made debuts.
