Fairfield Outscore Mountaineers By a Run in Game One in Connecticut

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (April 17, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's baseball fell to Fairfield 2-1 in the first game of their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series in Connecticut, with the Mountaineers out hitting the Stags seven to three. With the loss, the Mountaineers fall to an overall record of 17-17 while maintaining a 10-9 record in the conference.

The first of the Mount's seven hits during game one came in the top of the first as Christian Bauman singled through the right side of the infield, eventually being left on base as the inning elapsed. But the Mountaineers captured the lead later in the top of the second as Sam Dinitz grounded out to third base, scoring Evan Meier for the first run of the game.

Fairfield tied the game later in the bottom of the third on a similar groundout to third base, tying the game with plenty of time to play. But Fairfield captured the lead in the bottom of the fifth as the Stag's Bucciero hit out a solo shot to left field while not relinquishing the lead for the rest of the game.

Carson Clark led the Mount bats, going 2-4 on the day against Fairfield while Dinitz batted in the only Mountaineer run on Friday afternoon. Bauman, David Stokely, Phoenix Williams, Joey Agar, and Cameron Biller all notched solo hits against the Stags in game one.

Even with the accredited loss on Friday afternoon, Serigne Sarre went six and a third innings while only giving up three hits and striking out six batters. Maximus McCrary came in from the bullpen later in the game, pitching one and two thirds of an inning, striking out one Fairfield batsman in the process.
