EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 28, 2026) – Senior
Kevin Whitty scored a career-high five times, including the game-winning overtime shot as Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse secured its first victory in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, defeating Manhattan 10-9.
Whitty was one of five goal scorers for the team.
Brody Atkinson added two, and
Collin Thomson,
Carter Quested, and
Owen Fasulka each scored once.
Defenders secured 14 caused turnovers, most for the Mount since March 2, 2024 against Monmouth. Four players –
Aidan Kilduff,
Sean Connelly,
Dylan Sander, and Whitty – registered two caused turnovers apiece. Whitty also led in ground balls with six.
Mount St. Mary's is 2-8 (1-4 MAAC) this season after the victory.
HOW THE GAME UNFOLDED
- Manhattan steadily built an 8-5 halftime lead, using a 3-0 run from the first quarter into the second to go up 5-3 at the time.
- Out of the break, the Mount's defense locked in and shutout the Jaspers for almost 30 minutes. In that span of time, Atkinson scored twice, and Whitty followed with two more to put the Mount up 9-8 with 3:29 remaining.
- Down to their last possession of regulation, Manhattan forced overtime as Nick Henry eluded an aggressive Mount defense to find Sean Shelko for the tying goal.
- The Mount won the overtime faceoff, maintained possession, and Whitty found the wraparound game winner for the sudden victory.

Next Saturday (Apr. 4), Mount St. Mary's hits the road to battle Canisius. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m. from Buffalo.
