Emmitsburg, Md. (March 24, 2026)—Mount St. Mary's was outslugged by Marist in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) doubleheader at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on campus. The Mount dropped the opening game by the score of 10-5 before falling in the nightcap, 9-6.
GAME 1: Marist 10, Mount St. Mary's 5
Marist built an early lead and held off a couple of Mount St. Mary's rallies in a 10-5 win in the opening game of today's doubleheader.
Avery Dinges led the Mount, going 4-for-4 with four extra base hits in the game.
The Red Foxes (15-13, 9-1 MAAC) scored four times in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. The first four batters each recorded hits as Marist had five hits in the opening frame. The Mount (6-20, 3-4 MAAC) got a run back in the third when Dinges doubles, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a Del Giorno infield single.
After Marist answered with run in the top of the fourth, the Mount scored twice in the fifth to cut the deficit to 5-3.
Taylor Williams and Dinges had back-to-back doubles ahead of a Del Giorno RBI single to make it a two-run game.
Marist added five insurance runs in the top of the seventh, with Isabella Manory capping the inning with a two-run double. The Mount fought back in the bottom of the inning, getting the tying run to the on-deck circle. Dinges started the rally with a triple and she scored on a Del Giorno base hit.
Emma Tawney and
Tristin Koerner drew walks to load the bases, with
Kelsie Bandelow following with an RBI single to make it 10-5.
Lia Festa then grounded into a force out at the plate before Kaylie DeChicchis came on in relief and ended the game with a strikeout to earn the save.
GAME 1: Marist 9, Mount St. Mary's 6
The second game was much like the first with the Red Foxes building a 5-0 lead after the top of the third, and then holding off several Mount rallies again in the 9-6 win. Manni went 3-for-3 at the plate in the game for the Mount, while Dinges and Del Giorno each recorded a pair of hits.
Peyton Pusey hit a two-run triple in the top of the second to give Marist a 2-0 lead. Sienna Kunze added a solo home run with Mannory connecting for a two-run shot in the third to make it 5-0.
The Mount fought back with three runs in the bottom of the third to make it 5-3. Bandelow's RBI single drove in Dinges with the first run, and Tawney followed with a two-run homer to cut the deficit to two.
Marist responded with a run in the top of the fourth, but the Mount answered with two more runs to cut the Marist advantage to 6-5. With runners on the corners, Dinges stole second, and an error on the throw by the catcher allowed
Sharon Manni to score to make it 6-4. Del Giorno then made it a one-run game with a sacrifice fly.
Marist scored twice in the fifth, and one more time in the sixth, to restore the lead back to four at 9-5. Del Giorno's RBI single in the sixth cut the deficit to 9-6, but Marist held the Mount off the scoreboard the rest of the way to secure the win.
NOTES
- Dinges had three steals on the day, giving her a team-high 24 on the year.The 24 steals are the second-most in a single season in program history, moving her past Abigayle Perry, who had 23 in 2024.The program record for steals in a season is 39 set by Bridgette Gilliano in 2022.
- Emma Tawney went 2-for-5 in the doubleheader with her first career home run.Tawney is 10-for-19 (.526) at the plate over her past eight games.
- Dinges was 6-for-8 on the day, including a 4-for-4 performance in the opening game of the twinbill that included three doubles and a triple.She is now hitting a team-best .443 on the year.
- Gina Del Giorno went 5-for-7 at the plate with five RBI in the two games.Del Giorno is now hitting a robust .385 on the year.Her five RBI on the day nearly tripled her season total as she entered the doubleheader with three RBI on the season.
- Sharon Manni also went 5-for-7 in the doubleheader, and is now hitting .779 (7-for-9) over her past three games.
- The teams combined for 30 runs and 46 hits on the day.
