Foster and Halcisak Combine for 12 Strikeouts as the Mount Sweeps Canisius with 8-4 Win

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 15, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's baseball completed the sweep over Canisius on Sunday with an 8-4 win in Emmitsburg. Notching their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference sweep of the season, the Mountaineers now own a conference record of 4-2 with an overall record of 9-8.

After Owen Crowe got out of a situation with runners on first and second in the top of the first, the Mount bats started the game early in the bottom part of the inning. An Alex Mendes ground out to the short stop scored Evan Meier from third before a Sam Meyer three-run home run to left notched an early 4-0 lead for the Mount. Michael Toth doubled two at-bats later while reaching third on a wild pitch and eventually scoring from third on a balk from the pitcher for a five-run first inning.

Canisius got on the board with three runs in the second and third innings before Alex Mendes reached home plate on the back of an error by the Golden Griffins' first baseman. Later in the bottom of the fourth, Mendes singled through the right side of the infield, with Christian Bauman scoring from second while swimming around the catcher to touch the plate. Mendes hit into a sacrifice fly to centerfield in the bottom of the sixth, scoring Meier for the Mount's eighth and final run of the game.

After Koen Bowling went one and a third innings of relief, allowing two hits and allowing one run, Jakob Foster came in from the bullpen in the top of the fourth, allowing one walk while getting out of the fourth unscathed. Foster continued his good run on the mound in the fifth, striking out the side in order before striking out the first two batters of the sixth inning.

Allowing a hit and a walk to start the seventh, Foster was pulled and Josh Halcisak entered the game for the Mount from the bullpen. Allowing a first pitch-single to load the bases, Halcisak sat down the next three batters in order, getting out of a bases loaded situation for the Mount. Halcisak continued his run in the eighth, striking out three more Canisius batters while hitting one to end his strikeout streak. With two outs in the ninth, Halcisak produced a ground ball from the Canisius lead off man which hit off his leg and kicked to the shortstop, producing a 1-6-3 out at first base to close out the game and complete the streak.
Bauman and Mike Toth produced two hits on the day against the Golden Griffins while Meier, Mendes, Rudisill, and Meyer recorded solo efforts during play. Both Mendes and Meyer recorded three-RBI days against Canisius on Sunday.

On the mound, Crowe went one and two-thirds inning to start the game with three strikeouts and two earned runs. Bowling went one and a third while allowing one run and recording one strikeout in his Sunday innings. Foster, accredited with his third win on the year allowed two hits in three innings on the mound, striking out five batters in the process. And Halcisak went three innings from the bullpen, recording seven strikeouts while allowing a run in the ninth.
