BALTIMORE, Md. — Mount St. Mary's earned a strong 6–1 victory over Loyola at the McClure Tennis Center. With the win, the Mount improved to 3–7 on the season while Loyola dropped to 0–4.
The Mount claimed the doubles point by taking two of the three matches. Stefanos Pournaropoulous and Nikos Makris opened the day with a dominant 6–1 win over Nick Lawliss and Cyrus Shivkumar at No. 1 doubles. After Loyola evened things with a win at No. 2, Akarsh Gaonkar and Alessio Guarino secured the point with a 6–3 victory against Harry Zeiders and Blake Edwards at No. 3.
Mount carried that momentum into singles, winning five of the six matches to seal the team victory. Gaonkar delivered one of the most exciting matches of the day at No. 1 singles, rallying from a first-set deficit to defeat Petter Hagen, 2–6, 7–5, 11–9. Pournaropoulous followed with a 6–3, 6–4 win over Louis Moldenhauer at No. 2, while Alexi Roy earned a straight-set 6–3, 6–3 victory over Edwards at No. 3.
Ryan Wagner also battled back for a three-set win at No. 4, defeating Alejandro Rotundo 2–6, 7–5, 11–9. Makris added a 7–5, 6–3 victory over Shivkumar at No. 5, and Luke Papayoanou completed the Mount's strong singles showing with a comeback win at No. 6, topping Ian Perl 1–6, 6–1, 10–8.
