NORFOLK, Va. (February 27, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's baseball got back onto good footing on Friday afternoon, defeating Norfolk State 13-6 in game one of the series. With the win, the Mountaineers move to 3-5 on the year with two more games left to play in the Tidewater this weekend.
The Mount offense exploded from the plate in the top of the second inning, with an
Alex Mendes single to center field sending
David Stokely home.
Nate Wiles added to the score later in the inning, batting in Mendes and
Carson Clark with a one-base knock to right field.
Ty Fredo hit his first home run of the day in the top of the third inning, sending a ball clear over the left field wall. Later in the third,
Mike Toth reached base on an error by the third baseman, sending Mendes to the plate once again.
The Spartans finally got on the board in the bottom of the third only for the Mount to hit back with six runs in the top of the fourth.
Bryce Rudisill sent a grand slam over the right field wall to start the inning, increasing the game's early score to 9-2. Toth and Clark crossed home plate later in the inning for a commanding 11-2 lead heading into the fifth.
Another
Bryce Rudisill driven in run came across home plate in the top of the sixth, with the Gettysburg native batting in Stokely on an infield single. Fredo sent out his second and final home run of the afternoon in the eighth inning, rounding out a commanding win in game one of the weekend.
Rudisill led the way from the plate on Friday, going 2-4 from the plate with five RBIs and a Grand Slam. Fredo also went 2-4 on the day with two home runs, scoring three runs and batting in two while working two walks in the process. And
Alex Mendes went 3-3 against the Spartans in game one, batting in a run while swiping three bags on the basepaths.
On the mound,
Serigne Sarre was accredited with his first win of the year for his 6.1 innings of work, striking 11 batters while allowing two hits against the Spartans.
Koen Bowling featured out of the bullpen for two thirds of an inning, getting out of a sticky situation with runners on base, striking out two to end the seventh inning.
