STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (February 16, 2026) — Mount St. Mary's men's tennis dropped a tightly contested match at the CSI Tennis Courts on Saturday, falling in a narrow road decision to Wagner, 4-3. The Mount moves to 0-4 on the season.
Mount opened the match with a strong showing in doubles as Alexi Roy and Akarsh Gaonkar earned a 7-5 victory over Eddie Schmidt and Lukas Escher at No. 1 doubles while Stafanos Pournaropoulos and Nikos Makris had a 6-2 triumph at No. 2 doubles to secure the doubles point.
In singles play, the Mount earned two victories. Pournaropoulos secured a straight-sets win at No. 3 singles, defeating Tom Lamers 6-1, 6-3 while Ryan Wagner won at NO. 4 singles with one of the day's most competitive performances, rallying for a three-set win over Pablo Rodriguez Gonzalez. After dropping the opening set 6-1, Wagner edged the second set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (4), before closing out the match with a 6-3 third set.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action at Sacred Heart on Saturday, February 21, in the team's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opener.
