EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 13, 2026) – Christian Bauman delivered a seventh inning grand slam, catapulting Mount St. Mary's baseball into a historic victory, defeating the Missouri Tigers 8-5. The victory marks the first time the Mount has defeated a team competing in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
Down 5-1 after the third inning, the Mountaineers began to rally in the sixth inning. Before Bauman homered, he doubled to right field, scoring
Alex Mendes. A triple by
Ty Fredo scored Bauman, and a sacrifice fly from Michael Toth scored Fredo. With the score at 5-4 entering the seventh,
Carson Clark,
Evan Meier, and Mendes all reached base, setting up Bauman's bomb to deep right field. His 378-foot blast proved the deciding factor.
From there,
Maximus McCrary took over on the mound. Towing the rubber in the fourth inning, he went the rest of the way, hurling 5 1/3 innings with four strikeouts against only two hits.
JB Manarchuck added an earlier inning of scoreless relief.
Serigne Sarre had the start and doubled McCrary's strikeout total for a total of eight Tiger strikeouts.
Buaman – a transfer from Felician University by way of Charleston Southern – registered five RBIs in the win. He was the only multi-hit performer for the Mount. Mendes and Meier joined Bauman as multi-run scorers.
For the Mount, the win is the first over an SEC team on their third try. The team had previously played Mississippi State and Kentucky. The only other victory with a team with any SEC affiliation was a victory over Louisiana State on June 4, 1908, before the conference organized.
Game two between Mount St. Mary's and Mizzou begins with a first pitch of 4 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 14) in Fort Myers, Florida.
