EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 5, 2025) – A wild finish was in store for those attending the Mount St. Mary's men's soccer home opener on Friday evening. All goals came in the final 20 minutes – including two in the final five – as the Mountaineers and Explorers fought to a 2-2 draw.
Luciano Schiaffini scored first, giving the Mount the lead in the 74
th minute after sending home a rebound off a shot from
Abou Cherif. After La Salle equalized,
Jack Kehoe took a free kick from
Oliver Brown and headed the shot into the net to go up 2-1 in the 85
th minute.
On their last gasp, La Salle's Alexandru Zuma took a pass from Itzak Sandoval, firing a shot towards the upper left corner, getting enough to go past the outstretched arms of Mount goalkeeper
Julian Marcos.
For Marcos, it was a tough ending to what was a fantastic effort for the senior keeper. With injuries besetting the Mount's back line, the netminder kept his team in the match with seven saves.
Kehoe continues to lead Mount St. Mary's with his third goal of the season. Brown registered his first points as a collegiate player off the free kick.
The Mountaineers now stand at 0-2-2 for the season. They remain home to face another Atlantic 10 competitor when Duquesne comes to town for a 5 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 9) match.
