Hamden, Conn. (April 13, 2025)—Mount St. Mary's lost both ends of a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) doubleheader at Quinnipiac on Sunday, dropping each game by an identical score of 4-3. The Mountaineers fall to 8-31 overall and 3-15 in the MAAC.
In the opening game, the Mountaineers were edged by the Bobcats, 4-3. Quinnipiac jumped out to a two-run lead with a pair of runs in the first inning. The Mountaineers fought back with runs in the second and third inning to even the game at 2-2.
In the second,
Tyra Christian walked to lead off the inning, and eventually scored on a Quinnipiac error. In the third,
Tristin Koerner walked and came home on a
Laurenne Gallagher two-base hit.
A pair of errors led to two Quinnipiac runs in the fifth inning to give the Bobcats a 4-2 advantage. The Mount answered in the top of the sixth when
Brianna Manni doubled and Gallagher tripled down the right field line to make it 4-3. Gallagher attempted to score on the triple when the throw went over the third baseman's head, but she was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.
The Bobcats retired in the Mount in order in the seventh to preserve the win.
Gallagher went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple and two RBI to pace the Mount in the opening game. Manni added two hits, including the sixth-inning double, while
Emma Tawney went 2-for-3 as well. In the circle,
Olivia Murphy pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs with five strikeouts in six innings.
The Mount jumped out to the 2-0 lead in the top of the first in game two. After a pair of walks, Manni doubled home the first run, and Gallagher added a sacrifice fly. The Bobcats answered with a Kennedy Demott two-run double in the bottom of the inning.
Christian doubled with two outs to start a rally in the top of the fourth inning to help the Mount regain the lead. After Tawney walked,
Grace Koberg singled to bring home Christian with the go-ahead run.
The Bobcats countered with a two-out rally of their own, plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-3 lead en route to the victory.
Manni went 2-for-3 for the Mountaineers in the game.
Amaya Bowman started, allowing two runs in three innings, while
Ellie Meier pitched the final three innings, also allowing a pair of runs.
The Mount begins a three-game series with Siena on Friday, April 18, at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on campus.
