North Haven, Conn. – April 13, 2025 — In a pivotal late-season matchup, Mount St. Mary's men's tennis came up short against MAAC-leading Quinnipiac, falling 5-2 on the road Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Mount to 12-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while the Bobcats improve to 8-11 and stay unbeaten in the MAAC at 6-0.
Quinnipiac earned the doubles point after taking two of the three matches. The Mount's lone doubles win came at No. 3, where Aaron Thompson and Ryan Wagner edged Yasha Laskin and Daniel Velek in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-4).
In singles play, Alexi Roy delivered a strong performance for the Mount at No. 2 singles, earning a 6-4, 7-5 win over Finn Burridge. Filippos Zachiotis also picked up a point for the Mount with a hard-fought 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) victory at No. 3.
However, Quinnipiac secured wins on four courts to seal the match. Daniel Velek opened the day with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Akarsh Gaonkar at No. 1, and Elias Hoxha followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 over Lucas Evans. Vishal Prakash edged Aaron Thompson in a tight second set to win 6-3, 7-6 (7-1), and Alex Yang clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Alessio Guarino at No. 6.
Mount St. Mary's now turns its attention to a crucial road matchup at Fairfield on Sunday, with first place in the MAAC standings on the line.
