Mount St. Mary’s Esports Wins MAAC Championship for Overwatch

EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 1, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's Esports won a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship for the game Overwatch, capturing the title last week during the conference tournament in Poughkeepsie, New York.

The team comprised of sophomore Sam Bartholomew, who took home Tournament MVP honors, along with senior Brady Klodaski, junior Zach Conley, sophomore Mika Ortellado, and freshmen Chris Jacoboski and Jacob Drahusz. Coaching the squad was alumnus Dmitri Milholland C'24 under the guidance of Director Mike Hansen.

After a first round bye, the Mountaineers steamrolled to the final with 3-0 defeats of both Rider and Quinnipiac. In the championship match versus Marist, the team dug out of a 2-0 hole to engineer a reverse sweep and take the crown.

The victory is the program's second Overwatch title, joining a 2023 title earned in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Overwatch 2 – the second version of the game – is developed by Blizzard Entertainment. The game is a free-to-play shooter featuring over 30 epic heroes, each with game-changing abilities. Choose your hero, group up with your friends and battle across all-new maps and modes in the ultimate team-based shooter.

Next up for the team is the Mid-Atlantic Esports Conference Championships April 5-6, for an opportunity to earn a bid for nationals.
