Emmitsburg, Md. (March 7, 2025)--Le Moyne spoiled the home opener for Mount St. Mary's, taking both ends of a doubleheader today at Our Lady of the Meadows Field. The Dolphins earned a 4-0 win in the opening game before posting a 10-6 win in game two.
The Mountaineers (5-9) were unable to solve Le Moyne pitcher Nevaeh Ross, who picked up the win in both games while allowing three unearned runs. Ross tossed a complete-game four-hit shutout in the opener, striking out nine in the contest. She came on in relief in game two, and allowed three unearned runs in five innings to earn the win.
In the opening game, the Dolphins scored three times in the top of the second for a 3-0 advantage. Mount starting pitcher
Olivia Murphy settled in from there, retiring 11 consecutive batters at one point, to keep the Mountaineers in the game. The Mount's best chance to score came in the bottom of the third inning. The Mount loaded the bases with two outs, but Ross was able to escape the jam with a strikeout.
Murphy pitched a complete game for the Mount, allowing four runs (two earned) with five strikeouts. Freshman
Maya Alvarez led the offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Le Moyne (4-13) scored twice in the top of the first in the second game, but the Mount fought back to even the score at 2-2. Murphy had an RBI groundout while the second Mount run scored on a Dolphin error. Le Moyne took control of the game with a four-run third, taking advantage of three unearned runs.
Gina Del Giorno tripled to lead off the bottom of the third and scored when the throw into the infield was errant. Le Moyne built the lead to 10-4 before
Tristin Koerner closed out the scoring for the Mount with a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh.
Koerner provided a bright spot for the Mount offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBI. Del Giorno added a pair of hits for the Mount in the loss as well.
Amaya Bowman started, allowing three earned runs in four innings of work.
Sophia Schmehl pitched the final three innings, allowing a pair of runs.
The Mount's game tomorrow against Morgan State has been canceled. Le Moyne and Morgan State will still play at 11 am at the Mount's Our Lady of the Meadows Field. The Mount hosts Le Moyne at 11 am and Morgan State at 3 pm on Sunday with the Dolphins and Bears playing in between at 1 pm.
