Lawrenceville, N.J. (March 28, 2025)--Mount St. Mary's saw its impressive eight-match win streak come to an end on Friday afternoon, falling 6-1 to Rider in a hard-fought MAAC contest. The Mountaineers battled throughout the match but were unable to overcome a strong performance from the Broncs on their home courts.
Rider took early control by sweeping the doubles matches, securing the opening point. Despite Mount St. Mary's efforts to mount a comeback in singles play, the Broncs continued their momentum with several straight-set victories.
Filippos Zachiotis provided the lone bright spot for the Mount, delivering a gritty 6-4, 5-7, 10-4 victory at No. 3 singles. His win marked another clutch performance in a tiebreak, as he remained composed under pressure to put the Mountaineers on the board.
Elsewhere, Akarsh Gaonkar pushed Rider's top player, Dhruv Tangri, to the limit at No. 1 singles before falling in a tight 7-6, 6-3 contest. Ryan Wagner also put up a strong fight at No. 6 singles, forcing a third-set tiebreak before ultimately dropping a 6-3, 6-7, 10-2 decision.
Despite the loss, Mount St. Mary's remains in strong position with a 10-4 record (2-1 MAAC) and will look to start a new winning streakon Saturday, April 5, at home against Merrimack.
