Mount Softball Falls to Towson, 5-1

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 20, 2025) - Mount St. Mary's softball fell to the Towson Tigers in a midweek match at Our Lady of the Meadows Field Wednesday by a score of 5-1.

Brianna Manni had a 2-for-3 day at the plate and drove in the team's run, smacking a seventh inning double that scored Maya Alvarez. Lia Festa accounted for the Mount's additional hit - a fifth inning single.

The outfield put on a defensive clinic, with Laurenne Gallagher and Taylor Williams make various diving and sliding catches. Right fielder Gina Del Giorno received an outfield assist by beginning a well executed relay that gunned down a Towson runner at the plate.

On the mound, all five arms pitched in the contest. Olivia Murphy had the most productive outing of the group, pitching 3 1/3 scoreless inning while working out of a tough jam.

Towson scored all their runs in the third inning. Isabella Canesi drove in two with a double, and Grace Franczyk homered to bring in two more.

Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play begins for Mount St. Mary's this Saturday (Mar. 22) as the team kicks off a three-game set with Fairfield. A noon doubleheader starts the series.
