Ninth Inning Comeback Halted as Baseball Lose to George Washington 6-5

ARLINGTON, Va. (March 18, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's baseball lost a close contest today to fellow DMV rival George Washington by a 6-5 score in Arlington. With the loss, the Mountaineers move to a 8-11 record on the eve of their conference match up with Niagara next weekend.

The Mountaineers found themselves down in the first three innings by a score of 1-0 even though starter, Owen Crowe, went 5.0 innings and striking out four Revolutionaries in his innings of work. Bryce Rudisill once again proved his power at the plate in the top of the fourth after a ball sent out to right field hit off the score board to drive in Ethan Flaugher and Sam Grube for a three-run homerun. A three-run home run for the home side in the bottom of the sixth regained the lead for GW however, even in the face of good pitching. Two more runs for the Revolutionaries came in the bottom of the eight to up their score to 6-3. In the top of the ninth, Jake Maske ground out to the short stop while Nolan Book scored in the process. Ty Fredo singled through the left side of the infield later on in the inning, scoring Mikey Rodriguez. But George Washington worked the Mount batters into a double play, ending the scoring drive and the game in the ninth.

Fredo had a nearly perfect day at the plate, going 4-5 and knocking in a RBI to up his season batting average to .378. Book went 2-3 from the plate with a double and a hit by pitch while scoring a RBI in the process. And Grube went 1-4 on the day with a early innings double to set the tone for the rest of the offense.
