EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 31, 2025) – Still in the thick of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) playoff hunt, Mount St. Mary's men's soccer travels to the site of their last postseason game and a rematch with the Iona Gaels.
MOUNT UPDATE
Graham Dougald connected on his fourth penalty of the season as the Mount won a 1-0 match over Canisius last Wednesday. The senior now leads the team with five goals for the year. The defense collected its third clean sheet, backed by three saves from
Julian Marcos.
With two matches to play, Mount St. Mary's is one point removed from postseason position at 10 points. Their two closest competitors – Marist and Manhattan – face off against one another Saturday. A win by the Mount and a draw between the Jaspers and Red Foxes would catapult the Mountaineers into one of six spots.
SCOUTING THE GAELS
Iona enters the match on the heels of a successful two week stretch where the Gaels went 2-0-2. This includes a 0-0 draw of MAAC leader Sacred Heart. They are among the league leaders in offense with 23 goals, led by a trio of players – Alvaro Maneiro, Enbiya Bolur, and Aitor Jorde – who each have three goals. Leading goalie Fernando Alves Schmelz has 34 saves against 11 concessions.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Mount St. Mary's is 2-5 all-time against Iona but are still seeking their first positive result in MAAC play. Last season in the MAAC quarterfinals, the Mountaineers fell 3-0 to the Gaels in the program's first postseason match since 2008.
LOOKING AHEAD
On Wednesday (Nov. 5), the Mount concludes the regular season at home with a 7 p.m. match versus Rider.
