Emmitsburg, Md. (September 6, 2024)--The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team swept Chestnut Hill, 7-0, in the season opener on Friday at the Rooney Tennis Courts on campus.
The Mount captured wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take the early 1-0 lead in the match.Â
Akarsh Gaonkar and
Luke Papayoanou earned a 6-0 win at No. 1 while
Filippos Zachiotis and
Alexi Roy posted a 6-2 victory at the No. 2 position.
In singles play, Gaonkar prevailed at No. 1 singles while Zachiotis took a 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot. Roy earned a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 3, Papayoanoue won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles,
Ryan Wagner 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and
Nate Helms 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6.
The Mount returns to the courts on September 14-15 at the Bucknell Invitational and the Joseph Hunt Invitational hosted by the United States Naval Academy.
