LEWISBURG, Pa. (September 20, 2024) – Alexandros Bellesis set the all-time goals scored record for the men's water polo program on Friday with his 160
th career goal for the Mount, surpassing Jason O'Donnell's 159 career goals set back in 2021. The Mount dropped their first game of the weekend against Bucknell with an 18-13 loss as they fall to 1-2 in MAWP conference play.
A back and forth first quarter led to the Mountaineers being outscored 5-2 in the second quarter as the team rallied for another half of play. An even 4-4 third quarter saw the Mount pull within four goals of the lead before a final quarter push from Bucknell put the game out of reach.
Along with ownership of the school's record, Bellesis notched a hat trick of both goals and assists in his first game. Four different Mountaineers,
Michael Lemishko,
Chrysostomos Valavanis,
Ayden Hess, and
Aaron Tarr scored two goals each in the contest.
Sherif Hosni made 15 saves across the game as he commanded the rest of the field during transition to the other goal.
The Mountaineers return to the pool tomorrow as they face No. 10 Fordham at 10:00 a.m. followed by Wagner at 2:00 p.m. and Saddleback at 6:00 p.m.
