Mount Softball Downed by Niagara in Season Finale

Emmitsburg, Md. (May 4, 2024)--Mount St. Mary's was downed by Niagara, 9-3, in the team's season finale on a cold and wet morning at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on campus.  The Mount finishes the 2024 season with a 14-32 overall record and a 6-17 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

The top of the first was played in a steady rain and the Purple Eagles (27-19,, 16-7 MAAC) took advantage with a four-run inning.  Niagara had three walks and a hit batsman in the frame with Hailey Cenname's two-run double the big hit.  Mount St. Mary's sliced the deficit in half with a pair of runs in the third.  Kassidy Johnson reached on an error by the right fielder, and Zoe Truxon followed by lacing a triple to the gap in right center field.  Truxon came home to score on an Elizabeth King sacrifice fly.

Niagara broke the game open with five runs in the fourth, highlighed by Brianna Delaney's three-run homer.  The Mount's final run came in the bottom of the seventh when Laurenne Gallagher was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

King finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate while Truxon was 2-for-4 at the dish.  Maddie Coleman started for the Mount, striking out three while allowing eight runs in 3.1 innings.  Kaya Hannon turned in a solid relief effort, allowing one run in 3.2 innings.
