Mount St. Mary’s Baseball Concludes Season in MAAC Semifinals

EMMITSBURG, Md. (May 24, 2024) – Laying it all on the line, Mount St. Mary's baseball took top seeded Fairfield to extra innings in an elimination game at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship. The Stags were able to take the contest in walk-off fashion, 7-6, concluding the Mount's season in the MAAC semifinals.

Gutsy performances and clutch plays defined the ultimate game of the year, beginning with freshman Jakob Foster. The Bristow, Virginia native answered the call for 3 2/3 innings of work, holding the Stags scoreless into the fourth. That allowed the Mount to go ahead as Efrain Correa, Jr. punched in two with a key double as part of a four-run frame.

Correa would extend the Mount's lead to 5-3 on an RBI groundout in the fifth. Fairfield would rally with a home run and RBI double to pull the contest back to 5-5 the following frame. Jackson Snyder pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief, making clutch pitches to keep the contest tied.

Deven Sheerin was called onto the hill in the bottom of the seventh. After keeping the Stags off the board, it was Jayson Kramer's turn to step up, doing so with a solo jack for a 6-5 Mountaineers lead. Sheerin managed to get within two outs before a Matt Bergevin double and Tyler Kipp single brought the Stags back from the brink to force extras. In the 10th, Luke Nomura delivered the game-winner via a two-out single.

Mount St. Mary's finishes the season with a mark of 22-34-1, punctuated by two postseason wins – the program's first since joining the MAAC.
