Baseball Ignites Run Rule in Home Game Finale

EMMITSBURG, Md. (May 15th, 2024) – After trailing 4-1 through the first inning the Mountaineers scored 16 runs, 11 unanswered to ignite the seventh inning run rule winning this evening's soggy contest, 17-5.

Trouble on the mound led to the Eagles scoring the first four runs of the day after scoring on a balk and two wild pitches, followed by a sacrifice fly to center field.

Tyler Long scored the first run of the day for the Mountaineers on a double play ball. It was all Mountaineers after as they rattled four runs off in the 2nd inning largely from drawn walks and a Scott Seeker two RBI double to left field, 5-4.

The Eagles scored a run in the fourth to knot the game at five in which the Mountaineers exchanged the run in the bottom of the frame and rattled off 11 unanswered runs the next two innings. JT Landwehr opened the scoring with a single up the middle scoring Evan Smith, followed by a David Stirp single to right field scoring Tierney. Evan Meier closed the fifth inning with an RBI single up the middle to put his team ahead 12-7.

Long opened the sixth inning scoring with an RBI single to right center scoring Smith followed by an error by the short stop allowing Long to score. Jayson Kramer hit an RBI single through the right-side scoring Landwehr, followed by a Ty Stecko RBI single to left scoring Tierney. Evan Smith capped the scoring with an infield RBI single to put his team ahead 12 runs, 17-5.

TJ Curley entered the game in the top of the fifth inning and proceeded to throw three perfect innings allowing zero runs, zero hits, zero walks, while tallying five punch outs and earned his first save of the season and as a Mountaineer.
