Tori Bowles Records 100th Career RBI in Mount Split with UMES

Emmitsburg, Md. (May 1, 2024)--Senior catcher Tori Bowles reached 1,000 as Mount St. Mary's split a doubleheader with Maryland Eastern Shore at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on Wednesday afternoon.  The Hawks won the opening game, 5-2, before the Mountaineers rebounded for a 10-2 win in six innings game two.  Bowles went 3-for-7 with a double, home run and four RBI in the twinbill, becoming the sixth Mountaineer to reach 100 career RBIs in the process.

In the second game, Bowles started the scoring with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to give the Mount a two-run advantage.  It is her team-leading 10th home run of the season, tying her with Danyale Goode (2006) and Lindsay Heinze (2019) for the fourth-best single-season mark in program history.  The Mount added to the lead in the third when Julia Vincent singled, stole second, moved to third on a UMES error, and then scored on a Brianna Manni hard hit single to short.

The Mount (13-30) took control with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Avery Dinges led off with a base hit and promptly stole second base.  She moved to third, and Taylor Williams walked to put runners on the corners.  After Williams stole second, a wild pitch allowed Dinges to scamper home with Williams moving to third.  Abigayle Perry was hit by a pitch, and she stole second to put runners on second and third.  Vincent then walked with ball four being a wild pitch that allowed Williams to score for a 5-0 lead.  Bowles then singled to left to plate Perry for a six-run lead.  The RBI was the third of the game for Bowles, giving her 100 for her career at the Mount, good for sixth on the school's all-time list.

The Hawks (11-33) scored a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, but the Mount responded with two more in the bottom of the inning for an 8-2 lead.  Zoe Truxon singled and stole second with Dinges following with a double to score Truxon.  Dinges moved to third on a ground out, and after Williams was hit by a pitch, Perry drove home Dinges with a sacrifice fly.  The Mount sealed the win with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Manni doubled and Kassidy Johnson walked to put runners on first and second with one out.  A UMES error brought home Manni, and a Dinges single to right plated pinch runner Lia Festa with the game-clinching 10th run of the game.

Dinges went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored for the Mount while Manni was 3-for-4 at the plate as well.  Bowles finished the game 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI with Vincent added a 2-for-3 game with two sotlen bases and two runs scored.  The Mountaineers had had eight stolen bases in the second game with Vincent and Williams each recording two.

Amaya Bowman started game two for the Mount, picking up the win after tossing four scoreless innings.  Kaya Hannon allowed a pair of runs in two innings of relief.

In the opening game, UMES scored three times in the top of the fourth en route to a 5-2 victory.  The Mount took a 1-0 lead in the first without the benefit of a hit.  Perry walked and stole second with Bowles being hit by a pitch.  The duo pulled off a double steal, and Perry then came home when Manni reached on an error for the 1-0 advantage.

UMES tied the score in the second, and added three more in the fourth for a 4-1 lead.  The Mount cut the deficit to two runs in the fifth when Perry walked, stole second, and then scored on a Bowles two-base hit.  The Hawks, however, added an insurance run in the seventh for the 5-2 victory.

Perry scored twice in game two while adding three stolen bases.  She now has 23 steals on the season, the second-most in a season in program history.  She also now has 58 career stolen bases, third on the all-time list, just one behind Bridgette Gilliano (59, 2021-22) for second place.  Maddie Coleman pitched a complete game for the Mount in the opener, striking out four in seven innings of work.

The Mount hosts Niagara on Friday for a pair of games at Our Lady of the Meadows Field.  The opening game begins at noon.
