SHORE GATE, N.J. (April 7th, 2024) – Men's golf's efforts put them in the driver's seat headed into day two of competition. The Mountaineers were 3-2-1 in the semi-finals, later going 4-1-1 over Iona to propel them to the championship round against Fairfield. Men's golf was crowned champions of AC Match Play with a 3-2-1 finish over Fairfield.
RESULTS
QUARTERFINALS:
Juan Fradera,
Aaron Sorkin, and
Ben Smith earned the Mount three wins in the quarterfinals to position them in a spot to compete against 5-1-0 Iona in the semi-finals. Fradera and Sorkin went 2 & 1, meaning they positioned themselves two holes ahead with one hole to play. Smith posted 3 & 1, three holes ahead of Colin McCullagh with one hole to go.
SEMI-FINALS:
The Mountaineers went 4-1-1 against a touted Iona squad.
Martin Hurtado went 5 & 1, beating Parker Smith by five holes heading into the last hole.
Santiago Bonequi,
Aaron Sorkin, and
Ben Smith, all went up two on their opponents to send their team to the championship round.
Devin Smith finished all square with his opponent.
FINALS:
The Mountaineers edged Fairfield 3-2-1. Hurtado finished 3 & 2, beating his opponent with two holes left, while Bonequi finished 4 & 3, beating his opponent by the 16
th hole. Fradera tied, while Sorkin finished 2 & 1 for the Mount's third win, taking down Fairfield.
