EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 10, 2024) – Trailing by three in the fourth period, Mount St. Mary's got within one goal of the Canisius Golden Griffins. But the home side withstood one last chance was able to hold on for an 11-10 victory on Wednesday afternoon.

Cormac Giblin had his best scoring day of the season, finding the back of the net four times. Six other Mountaineers posted one goal in the game. Mitchell Dunham led the Mount in ground balls with five, followed by Ethan Holobinko with four to go along with his 11 faceoff wins. Bennett Wright stepped into the cage and earned 10 saves.

The Mountaineers continue to be hampered in one-goal games, falling to 1-4 this year.

Two Giblin goals in the first quarter gave the visitors a 3-2 edge early. The Golden Griffins responded with a 5-0 run to pull ahead 7-3, pushing that to 8-4 by halftime. Down 9-5, Brian Bradley provided a shorthanded goal and Tommy Niehaus scored man-up to make proceedings interesting. Both teams traded goals until Alexis Simard added to the Canisius tally, 11-8, with 9:22 to go. The advantage was enough, even as Giblin and Kevin Whitty posted goals down the stretch.

Heading back to Emmitsburg, the Mount hosts Sacred Heart Saturday (Apr. 13) at noon.
