GENEVA, OHIO (February 14th, 2024) – The Mountaineers currently hold seventh place following the first day of the MAAC Championships. Two Standout performances in each of the 200-yard medley relay events propelled the teams to high point totals for the day. The women are in seventh with 58 points while the men are in seventh with 56 points.
Jessalyn Powell competed in the 1-meter dive event on day one of the MAAC Championships, scoring herself a 118.90.
The women opened the MAAC Championships with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as swimmers
Hanna Aggen,
Christina Lazari,
Meghan Speicher, and
Maddy Samuels finished the relay in 1:42.23. The team toppled the previous school record (1:46.41) set at the Northeast Conference Championships in 2014. Following the 200 was the 800-Freestyle relay, the women finished eighth as swimmers
Abigail Steckiel,
Lauren Wetzel,
Madison Murphy, and
Meghan Speicher tallied a time of 7:44.36 adding 22 to their team's point total.
The men also opened the MAAC Championships with a second-place finish in the 200-medley relay as swimmers
Jason Fitch,
Aidan Grady,
Jacob Wallace, and
Austin Toland finished in 1:29.09, just .05 seconds out of first place. The team toppled the previous school record (1:29.91) set at the 2023 MAAC Championships. Following the 200 was the 800-Free, the men finished eighth as swimmers
Jonah Hancock,
Nicholas Santorelli,
Antonio Gurri and
John Baroody tallied a time of 6:52.96 earning their team 22 points. The team toppled the previous record (7:00.19) set in 2019 at the CCSA Championships.
