EMMITSBURG, Md. (November 9, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's women's rugby fell to Navy 36-14 Saturday afternoon as the Mountaineers were bested by the Midshipmen in the final game of the Fall XV's season.
After a six-minute shutout to start the first half, Navy broke the deadlock with a flurry of tries and conversions as they lead 19-0 through 36 minutes of play. Navy's defense also held up as they stopped the Mount in the goal area to prevent a tying score early in the first half. The Mount finally got on the board in the 37th minute as
Monet Hubbard broke through the middle line of the Midshipmen's defense and ran all the way under the bar for a try and to set up a straight placement for
Shaniah Mayers to slot away the conversion kick to send the Mountaineers into halftime down only 19-7.
For 21 minutes to start the second half, both the Mount and Navy held each other to offensive turnovers and good defense performances as the scoring hadn't continued to start the second half. Navy finally broke the deadlock as the Midshipmen scored a try and converted on the kick to start the scoring once again. After a series of rucks broke down on the Navy goal line,
Carolyn Bower broke through under the bar for a try and once again set up Mayers for good placement to make good on the conversion kick to make it 26-14.
Navy scored once more in the 74
th minute and in the 83
rd minute while missing both conversions to round out the game in a win for the Mids.
