ANNAPOLIS, Md. (November 24, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's men's water polo was defeated by Bucknell in the fifth-place game of the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Championships by a score of 23-11. With the loss, the Mount finishes in sixth place for this year's conference tournament, their highest ever finish as a program.
Bucknell led off the match early with two goals within the first three minutes. Even with scores from
Drasko Sekaric,
Alexandros Bellesis, and
Nate Valentine, the Mount trailed the Bisons 5-3 at the end of the first. The opponents stepped up the scoring in the second, putting nine goals past the Mountaineers in the second quarter while Bellesis scored the only goal of the quarter.
The third quarter ended in a 5-4 win for the Bisons once again as Bellesis scored twice with supporting goals from
Chrysostomos Valavanis,
Kiahi Horan, and
Zach Fischer. A close fourth quarter rounded out the contest as
Kacper Cieplik,
Nicholas Wallace-Whitfield, and
Michael Lemishko all found the net in a 4-3 quarter win and a match win for Bucknell.
With the final match of the season over, the Mount finishes the year with a 6-28 record and a MAWPC record of 3-11. Bellesis finished the day with three goals to his name with an assist to follow.
Aaron Tarr ended the day with a goal and six assists against Bucknell.
Sherif Hosni ended the day with seven saves in the cage.
