ANNAPOLIS, Md. (October 26, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's men's water polo lost out on both of their MAWPC Saturday match ups today, with the Mountaineers narrowly losing to Johns Hopkins 15-13 and in overtime to Navy 15-12.
In Baltimore during the first game, the Mount trailed the Blue Jays through the first half 7-4 before a five goal third quarter put the Mount within Johns Hopkins three-goal lead. But the early goals for the Blue Jays gave them the upper hands as the Mountaineers rounded out the game, losing by a two-goal margin.
In the match against Johns Hopkins,
Michael Lemishko netted his 100
th career goal for the program while scoring a pair against the Blue Jays.
Zach Fischer,
Alexandros Bellesis, and
Aaron Tarr all netted hat tricks during the first game of the day.
Sherif Hosni contributed to the game with 10 saves in the cage.
The Mount was outscored by Navy heading into the halftime break down 8-5 against the Midshipmen. But a 7-4 second half by the Mountaineers sent the game into overtime off the back of a
Chrysostomos Valavanis goal scored with under two minutes left in regulation. But Navy found form again, scoring three in overtime to put the game away.
Vasilije Marinkovic made 14 saves against the Midshipmen in goal during his first game of the weekend. Bellesis added four goals to his weekend tally while Valavanis and
Nicholas Wallace-Whitfield added hat tricks to the teams scoring.
