Defeat in Cambridge Ends Men’s Water Polo’s New England Trip

CAMBRIDGE, Ma. (October 20, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's men's water polo was handed two losses today in Cambridge, Massachusetts as they lost to Salem 25-17 and Chapman 16-13. With these results, the Mount went 1-3 in this weekends games and are now 5-21 on the season.

The Mount kept pace with Salem early in the first quarter with the scoreline being 13-9 in favor of the Tigers going into halftime. But Salem pulled away in the second half as a five goal fourth quarter made all the difference in the end as the Mountaineers were held to two goals in the final period of play.

Michael Lemishko, Drasko Sekaric, and Alexandros Bellesis all notched hat tricks against the Tigers, with Sekaric adding an additional five assists in the contest. Nicholas Wallace-Whitfield added four more assists to the team's tally on the day followed by a goal of his own. Ayden Hess and Chrysostomos Valavanis added a pair of goals each to the team's efforts.

In their match up against Chapman, the Mountaineers kept the contest even through the half, going into the break tied 11-11. But a five goal third quarter by the Panthers was all it took for them to edge out the Mount in the end.

Sekaric and Bellesis again added hat tricks in their second game in a row followed by pairs of goals by Wallace-Whitfield, Valavanis, and Aaron Tarr. Both Tarr and Sekaric also contributed three assists each to the stat sheet. Vasilije Marinkovic made 22 saves in the cage during the game, only three saves shy of equaling his record of 25 saves in a single game set on September 14 against LIU.
