EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 12, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's men's water polo took home the victory in their second home game of the year over Mercyhurst 19-10. With the win, the Mountaineers completed the two-game sweep over the Lakers and move to 2-4 in conference play.
An even 4-4 score between the two teams in the first quarter was led off by a pair of goals from
Alexandros Bellesis followed by solo goals from
Chrysostomos Valavanis and
Drasko Sekaric. Bellesis completed his hat trick and then some in the second half, scoring three against the Lakers before halftime.
With the game still tied at 7-7, the Mount stepped on the throttle to start the third with six unanswered goals.
Aaron Tarr scored a hat trick in succession thanks to long passes from
Sherif Hosni sent over the top and behind the defense. Sekaric scored another goal in the quarter while being deadly from distance.
Nicholas Wallace-Whitfield and Valavanis added solo goals before the third intermission to give the Mountaineers a commanding 14-9 lead.
After that, the Mount cruised home the rest of the game with five more goals scored in the fourth quarter by Bellesis, Sekaric,
Zach Fischer,
Jack Fox,
Kacper Cieplik, and
Tommy Houck to ensure the win over Mercyhurst.
