EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 11, 2024) – In a fast and furious pace, Mount St. Mary's and Salem registered 37 goals in a Friday evening showdown at the ARCC Swimming Pool. The Tigers got one step ahead of the Mountaineers to take the game, 21-16.
The offensive fireworks electrified a raucous crowd in attendance, with cheers after Mount goals reaching up to 110 decibels.
Chrysostomos Valavanis tallied the most goals, scoring four times in the contest.
Michael Lemishko also tabulated a hat trick for the game.
Both teams played an even first quarter, with
Alexandros Bellesis scoring to draw the Mount level at 4-4. The home side stayed consistent on offense in each frame, smashing shots back the Salem keeper four times in every period. The Tigers grabbed a multi-goal lead at the 7-5 mark and kept the Mountaineers at arm's length afterwards.
Nate Hopkins and
Ivan Morales added goals late in the contest on penalties. They were part of a group of eight Mountaineers who scored, with
Nate Valentine,
Ayden Hess, and
Aidan Zieger all joining in as well. From the goalkeeping perspective,
Joseph Maxson denied five shots and
Vasilije Marinkovic stopped four.
The homestand continues Saturday (Oct. 12) with a noontime sprint off against Mercyhurst.
