NORTON, MASS. (September 3rd, 2023) - Men's Water Polo suffered two losses in Sunday's edition of the 2023 Bruno Classic, losing 18-6 to Augustana this morning and in a 19-17 final quarter battle to MIT this afternoon.
Eli Thalos scored his 100th career goal with his first score against MIT in the Mount's second game of the day.

Mount St. Mary's men's Water Polo tipped off this morning at 8 a.m. in Norton, Mass. against the Augustana Vikings, a team who has had much success since they ignited the program in 2021. The Mount controlled the pace of the game in the first scoring two goals to one, both on a 6 to 5 power-play. However, the Vikings clicked in the second quarter firing off seven goals to the Mount's one and going into the half ahead 8-3. Augustana kept their foot on the gas out of the break, scoring ten additional goals to the Mount's three and leaving the pool victorious by a score, 18-6.

The Mount had rest before their second game of the day, ready to take on the Massachusets Institute of Technology. The game started with offensive power on both sides of the pool as the teams were knotted up 5-5 through the first quarter. Both programs were showcasing their ability to find the back of the net early on in this game as they entered half-time slightly in favor of MIT 10-9. The Mountaineers came out of the break on fire, sounding off several shots, many reaching the back of the net, the score tied going into the fourth quarter, 15-15. Anyone's game at this point, it came down to power-plays, MIT finding the slight edge over the Mountaineers which propelled MIT to outscore the Mount 4-2. In the end MIT was able to overcome the Mount's strong outing both offensively and defensively and winning 19-17.
