MORGANTOWN, W.V. (September 24, 2023) – Men's Water Polo made the short trip over to Morgantown, W.V. this weekend to compete in the Salem Weekend. The Mountaineers dropped game one to #19 Navy 16-7, while losing game two to McKendree 15-8.

The Mountaineers shot out of a cannon in the first quarter stringing together four goals to the Naval Academy's five. Navy began to take control of the game in the second after tallying four goals to the Mount's one and entering halftime with a 9-5 lead. The Mountaineers came out of the break unable to convert on their 6v5's as they converted only one of the seven opportunities to the Midshipmen's 3-4. Navy kept control the rest of the way resulting in a 16-7 loss for the Mount.

The Mountaineers started this game much like the last in that coach Vink and his team started strong on the offensive. They managed the game well in the first half, however settled for six goals as they were again unable to convert on their power plays. The team went 1-4 in the first half on their 6v5's. The Bearcats were unable to force a power play as the Mountaineers showed prowess on defense, forcing McKendree to play the entire pool.
Out of the break, the Mount was unable to spark a comeback, scoring just two goals to the Bearcats six, resulting in a 15-8 loss.
