Emmitsburg, Md. (May 16th, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's came away with a commanding win today 13-1 over the Coppin State Eagles. Freshman
Kris Giangreco earned his first win of the season and as a Mountaineer after pitching two innings, allowing no runs and only one hit, while fanning two batters out.
Brett Alvis,
Cam King,
Evan Haulik, and
Brendan Yagesh helped put Giangreco in a nice spot to earn his first career win. Together these five pitchers combined for six strikeouts, allowed only five hits on one run, and helped finish the game in seven innings.
The Mountaineers were in control from the first inning on as they started the game with four consecutive scoring innings. Most of the damage was done in the first and second after starting out 11-0. Everybody on the field, from the mound to the batter's box was involved today as seven of the starting nine recorded an RBI before the third inning.
Tyler Long started things off in the first with a two RBI double to right center scoring
Tristan McAlister and
Shane Wockley.
Jayson Kramer followed by finding a gap in right center which scored Long.
Scott Seekers first at bat was a double to left center, scoring Kramer and advancing Tierney to third. Two more runs scored by Tierney and
Brady Drawbaugh increased the lead 6-0 after one.
Similar outing in the next frame, the Mount's bats were hot. This time starting things off with a
Brady Drawbaugh two run bag clearer, safely pushing himself and Tierney across the plate. A few base knocks in the second and third cracked open this lead to 13-0 by the fifth inning.
With the game in complete control for the Mountaineers, you can say the team gave it their all in their final home outing of the season and what a beauty it was. A bit of a momentum push as well heading into a very crucial series against the Niagara Purple Eagles beginning Thursday.
