Emmitsburg, Md. (April 18, 2023)--The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's tennis teams closed out the regular season with wins over Loyola at home on Tuesday.  The women posted a 5-2 victory for their first victory over the Greyhounds since 2017.  The men's team forged a 4-3 victory for their 10th straight wins over Loyola.

For the men, the Mount's doubles team of Filippos Zachiotis and Jarrett Karnibad earned a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles to extend their school record for doubles wins in a season to 22.  The Mount's Christos Dagklis and Marcel Cronin earned a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles while Oscar Castro and Giovanni Abriola paired for a win at No. 3 doubles that allowed the Mount to sweep for the doubles point.

In singles play, Zachiotis won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 over Oliver Davey while Dagklis was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at No. 3 singles.  The Mount's final point came from Karnibad, a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.

The men's team concludes the 2022-23 season with 5-15 record. 

In the women's match, the Mount took two of three doubles matches for the doubles point.  The No. 1 pair of Amber Policare and Bella Pescatore won 6-3 while the No. 3 tandem of Ryan McCarthy and Victoria Papadopoulou were 6-3 winners as well.

In singles play, Papadopoulou continued her fantastic freshman season with a straight set win at No .1 singles.  She has won 13 consecutive matches and is now 20-3 in singles play this year.  Policare earned a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles while Adriana Barney was a 7-6, 6-2 victory at No. 3.  The final point for the Mount was a 6-3, 7-5 win by Ana Alvarez-Storni at No. 4 singles.

The Mount is next in action at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships. The Mount (7-8, 2-4 MAAC) earned the fourth seed in the tournament and will face top-seeded Quinnipiac in the semifinals at 2:00 p.m. at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J. on Saturday.
