Baltimore, Md. (March 8, 2023)--Mount St. Mary's closed out its spring trip with a 3-2 loss at UMBC on Wednesday evening. The Mount rallied from a three-run deficit with a pair of runs in the sixth, but could not complete the comeback. The Mount falls to 3-10 on the season.
UMBC scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to take the early lead. The Retrievers made it 3-0 with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. The Mount fought back with two runs in the top of the sixth to make it a one-run game.
Vanessa Martin doubled and
Abigayle Perry walked to put runners on first and second with one out.
Maggie Kane followed with a base hit to bring home the Mount's first run. A wild pitch allowed Perry to score to cut the deficit to 3-2.
The Mount was retired in order in the seventh.
Mount St. Mary's is back in action this weekend by hosting the Mount Softball Invitational. The Mount hosts Central Connecticut at 11 am and St. Bonaventure at 1 pm on Saturday.
