EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 4, 2023) – Day two of the Convergence Tournament saw Mount St. Mary's women's water polo held to seven goals for the afternoon. The team fell 10-4 to Concordia University Irvine and #15 Pacific 13-3.
 
The Mount is now 8-4 this year.
 
Samantha Bright dealt with a busy session in the cage handily against the Pacific Tigers. The sophomore stopped 18 shots and scored a goal of her own. Pip Piper stopped nine shots against CUI. On the offensive side of the ball, Ana Luisa Cotta finished with three goals for the day.
 
In the opening contest, CUI jumped out of the gate with four of the first five goals. Mount added one goal per quarter, halving deficits at 2-1 and 4-2. Cotta's second score cut the game to 5-3 in the third period, but CUI finished the game with five goals to the Mount's one.
 
Rebecca Valentine opened scoring against the Tigers, and Bright's goal as the final play of the first quarter helped keep the team in the contest at 3-2 Pacific. But after Cotta added another with 5:36 in the second, the Tigers held the Mountaineers scoreless, ending the game on an 8-0 run.
 
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play begins March 18^th with a weekend at Marist. The Mount plays the host Red Foxes with neutral contests against Iona and St. Francis Brooklyn.
