EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 24, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse fell 16-6 to UMBC Friday evening in a road contest.
Jared McMahon posted a multi-goal game and picked up points in his 25
th straight game.
Steven Schmitt and
Kevin Whitty, Jr. added their first goals of the season.
Mitchell Dunham contributed a pair of assists and four ground balls.
UMBC was led by five goals from Mateo Brown and a hat trick of three from Josh Tang. Jayson Tingue got nine saves in the victory.
The Mount fell to 1-4 on the year while UMBC improved to 2-0.
McMahon gave the Mountaineers an early lead with the opening goal 71 seconds in. UMBC countered with a 4-0 run to end the quarter. Whitty, Jr. put the Mount on the board again to open the second period, but the Retrievers rallied again with three more goals.
The Retrievers transformed a 7-3 advantage into a 14-3 score in the third quarter, putting together five goals over the last five minutes. The Mountaineers finished with the final three goals of the game as
