Winston- Salem, N.C. (February 24, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's was able to keep the streak alive beating Towson 5-2, to increase to 5-0 on the year. The 5-0 start marks the best start in the school's Division I history, before that tying the 5-0 start the Mountaineers began with in 1985. The Mount lost game two to Wake Forest 18-2.
MOUNT ST. MARY'S VS. TOWSON
Pitcher
Cooper Adams recorded his first win of the season. The graduate student through six innings allowed two runs on three hits and recorded four strikeouts.
Max Moore tallied his first save of the season after he pitched out the final three innings, allowing no runs on one hit and recorded two strikeouts.
The Mountaineers scored first after
Shane Wockley singled to center, batting
Jayson Kramer in, 1-0 going into the bottom of the second.
Towson's responded with consecutive doubles to right field, 1-1. Casey Bishop placed a sacrifice bunt on third which allowed Brian Hecklemen to score, 2-1 after two.
The top of the fifth was all Mountaineers as the inning begun with
JT Landwehr advancing to first on the drop third strike rule.
Tyler Long lined a single to right field advancing Landwehr to second.
Scott Seeker grounded out to the pitcher which allowed Landwehr and Long to advance to second and third.
Tristan McAlister was walked on a full count to load the bases.
Efrain Correa, Jr. stepped in the box, facing a 2-1 count knocked a ball out of the park to record his third grand slam of his Mount career, 5-2.
Correa, Jr.'s grand slam turned out to be the Mount's deciding factor as the rest of the game went scoreless both ways.
MOUNT ST. MARY'S VS. WAKE FOREST
For the Mountaineers, freshman
Brayden Foster knocked a solo homerun to right field in the top of the seventh to record his first homerun of the season and as a Mountaineer.
Ty Stecko earned his first RBI of the season after drawing a walk by pitcher Zach Johnston which allowed
Shane Wockley to score.
Jake Andrews made his first appearance on the mound this evening. The sophomore pitched 1.2 innings allowing no runs on two hits and recorded two strikeouts.
