Farmville, Va. (February 19, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's won game three in commanding fashion, 5-1. The Mountaineers tallied five runs on ten hits, two of those hits being solo homeruns by senior
David Stirpe.
Senior pitcher
Derek Huff started the game for the Mountaineers. Huff pitched 4.1 innings, threw 90 pitches, tallied four strikeouts, while allowing no runs on four hits.
The Mount took control of this game early when Stirpe yanked a solo homerun down the leftfield line in the top of the second, 1-0. The innings were scoreless for a while until the top of the fifth.
Tyler Long was hit by a pitch to start the top of the fifth. Junior
Scott Seeker lined a single up the middle to send Long to third. The Mount had runners on first and second after Seeker stole second on a wild pitch.
Brady Drawbaugh was able to reach first on an error by the short stop, allowing Seeker and Long cross the plate, 3-0.
Jayson Kramer came up to bat and singled, advancing Drawbaugh to third. Drawbaugh was then able to score on another wild pitch, 4-0.
Stirpe found the sweet spot of the bat again in the top of the eighth, hitting another solo homerun that put the Mount up 5-0. With complete control of the game, the Mount brought in sophomore pitcher
Danny Salisbury to close. Freshman pitcher
Jeff Davis recorded his first save yesterday and now his first career win as a Mountaineer today.
