Emmitsburg, Md. (February 10th, 2023) – Following day three of the 2023 MAAC Championships the Mount's men's team holds seventh place with 184.5 points, while the women's team holds eighth place with 154 points.
Sophomore
Aidan Grady placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke tallying a time of 54.38 seconds, earning his team the max 20 points. Junior
Nicholas Santorelli and graduate student
Peter Jones raced in the 200-freestyle, Santorelli placed 11
th with a final time of 1:41.64 while Jones placed 14
th with a final time of 1:43.55. Junior
Jacob Wallace competed in the 100-breast alongside Grady, Wallace placed third tallying a final time 54.92. Junior
Griffin Distler raced in the 100-breast, he placed 13
th notching a final time of 56.97. Junior
Jason Fitch competed in the 100-backstroke, placing second and tallying a time 48.42. Fitch missed breaking his own school record by .01 seconds previously set in February of 2022.
The men's 400 medley relay team included Fitch, Grady, Wallace, and Jones. The team finished fourth tallying a final time of 3:20.41, also just missing the school record by the smallest of margins.
Freshman
Christina Lazari had a highlighting performance in the 100-yard breaststroke as she finished third, tallying a final time of 1:03.71. Lazari shattered the previous record held by Alyssa Felos (1:07.46) that was set back in November of 2017. Freshman
Abigail Steckiel competed in the 100-butterfly, she finished in 12
th place with a final time of 57.67. Sophomore Lauren Wetzel raced in the 100-back as she finished in 11
th with a final score of 59.18.
The women's 400 medley relay team included Lauren Wetzel,
Christina Lazari,
Abigail Steckiel, and sophomore
Meghan Speicher. The team finished in fifth place tallying a final time of 3:53.30. The team broke the school record (3:54.28) previously held by Amanda Moore, Haley Fournier, Erin Regan, and Castro Marquez set way back in February of 2015 at the NEC Championships.
The final day of competition begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. The finals will begin at 3 p.m.
