Mountaineers Pick Up Point in Draw with Marist

EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 7, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's men's soccer added another point to their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) total, securing a 1-1 draw with the Marist Red Foxes Saturday evening at Waldron Family Stadium.

Freshman Junee Lee got the goal for the Mountaineers, taking the team lead with three and earning his second in as many matches. Erick Villatoro picked up his second assist of the season via the score, and Jonathan Yowell his first.

Yowell provided a spark for the home side when he entered as a substitute in the 33rd minute. The junior took several chances at the net, including a shot on goal late in the half. Lee' s goal came at the 39th minute when Yowell flicked a ball towards Villatoro, who crossed it to the opposite end of the box where the freshman was waiting.

The second half saw Ethan Russell preserve the lead with two saves before Marist was able to convert. On a ball bouncing around the box, Demarre Montoute found Richard Morel for his third of the year. After that, only one shot landed on goal – an 86th minute try from Ammit Bhogal which was saved by the Red Foxes' netminder Luca Bulfon. The stop was one of four on the day for Marist, including an opening minute penalty attempt.

Mount St. Mary's now stands at 1-2-1 in the MAAC and are tied with Niagara for sixth place. Next Saturday (Oct. 14), the team hosts Canisius for Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m., with the ceremony for the senior class occurring pre-game.
