Mount St. Mary’s Women’s Rugby Closes Out Season Triumphantly

EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 28th, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's women's rugby performed well against a sound Quinnipiac unit. The Mountaineers honored their graduating class prior to kickoff which fueled this team to play with passion and strength. The Mount lost the game 53-21 to conclude their 2023 season, defeated by a few long runs and strategic offensive schemes by the Bobcats.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
  • Quinnipiac scored the first try of the game at 4:30, conversion kick successful, an early 7-0 lead.
  • The Mount answered via a stout run from just inside midfield, as Monet Hubbard gashed the Bobcat's back line, breaking three tackles along the way, to knot the game at 7.
  • A penalty on the Mount allowed Quinnipiac great field position inside the Mount's five, resulting in a walk-in try for the Bobcats, conversion kick successful, 14-7.
  • Quinnipiac knocked on, yet, were able to regain possession and break through the Mount's left-side for a try, conversion kick unsuccessful 19-7.
  • The Bobcats scored the final two tries of the half as both opportunities had the Mount pinned deep in their own territory, 29-7 at the break.
  • The Bobcats kept control of the game out of the break with a try three minutes into the second half, conversion kick successful, 36-7.
  • Katherine Stern heard the noise and answered with a speedy run from midfield, leaving defenders behind, Stern with the successful conversion kick, 36-14.
  • Quinnipiac's Elize Kayser scored straight out of a scrum at 56:40, conversion kick successful, 43-14.
  • The Mountaineers gave themselves great positioning off a penalty kick as Anita Manglona was able to break into the try zone (64:00) to score her first collegiate try of her career, Stern conversion kick successful, 43-21.
  • The Bobcats scored the last try of the match via an Alexis Haskins answer, conversion kick successful, 50-21.
  • Quinnipiac attempted and succeeded a penalty kick in the 79th minute, 53-21.
