EMMITSBURG, Md. (May 21, 2022) – With a 13-7 defeat at the hands of LIU, Mount St. Mary's baseball completed their 2022 season.
In the season finale,
Tyler Long and
Tristan McAlister registered three hits each. Long scored twice and McAlister finished scoring once and driving in one.
Thomas Bramley,
Aiden Tierney, and
Brady Drawbaugh brought home two runs apiece.
Five pitchers ended the season on the hill, capped off on a positive note by freshman
Isaac Van Meter with a spotless ninth.
The Sharks took the lead by the fourth batter of the game and never relinquished it. Giovanni Ciaccio singled home two teammates as LIU scored three times before the Mount took to the plate. A crushed, two-run shot from
Brady Drawbaugh got the Mount as close as they would come at 3-2 in the second.
LIU responded with seven before the Mountaineers offered a retort. Homers by EJ Exposito and Colin Adams helped build the 10-2 advantage. McAlister and Tierney added runs in the seventh to bring it back to 10-4.
Mount did not go away quiet in the ninth. Two batters were hit by pitches, setting up a bases loaded situation for Bramley. The senior catcher drove in two on a single, and Tierney again followed with a single to score McAlister. Halfway to what would have been an epic comeback, LIU finished off any thoughts with a pair of strikeouts.
By winning, LIU took full possession of the NEC regular season title – the first time for their program since 1990. The Sharks advance to the conference tournament as the top seed, seeking a second trip to the NCAA's.
Mount St. Mary's finishes with a mark of 14-34 and 7-20 in the NEC.
