EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 2, 2022) – Mount St. Mary's women's rugby falls in three tightly contested matches in the Crimson 7s Tournament.
Dartmouth 17, Mount St. Mary's 10
The Mountaineers jumped out to an early lead in the first half when
Veronica Blair was able to take the ball coast-to-coast after the defense was able to stop the Big Green on the goal line. The Mount extended their lead to 10 right before half on a quick restart. Dartmouth came out of half and went on a 17-0 run, including two late tries that put the game out of reach.
Sacred Heart 26, Mount St. Mary's 5
The Pioneers got on the board within the first minute to take a 7-0 lead. The Mount had a chance to tie the game, but were denied at the goal line. The Mount crossed the late soon after when
Jalana Jade Garcia did a quick restart and got past the defense to make the score 7-5. Sacred Heart took the restart for a try after the attacker made a move that created a lane straight to the goal line. The Pioneers held the Mount scoreless in the second half while scoring two tries to secure the victory.
American International 22, Mount St. Mary's 10
The Yellow Jackets got off to a fast start scoring the game's first try, but Garcia scored her second try on the day on a miscue by AIC. The Yellow Jackets scored another try before the half to take a 10-5 lead. AIC scored two tries midway through the half to take a 22-5 lead, but Katie Stern scored a late try while Garcia scored the conversion kick to reach the final of 22-12.
