GENEVA, Ohio (February 26, 2022) – The week-long Northeast Conference Championships concluded Saturday, with the Mount St. Mary's swimming & diving teams coming in fifth and ninth places. The men's team scored 446 points to take the fifth spot while the women earned 166 points for ninth.
On the last day, it was
Jason Fitch taking the limelight for his winning performance in the 200 meter backstroke. The mark of 1:45.86 was another record-toppling effort for the sophomore. Fellow sophomore
Jacob Wallace continued his tremendous championship run with a third place finish of 2:01.87 in the 200 meter breaststroke.
Fitch's 200 backstroke endeavor was far from alone. Four more Mount men competed in the event, all placing in the consolation final.
Jonathan Mata led this group of athletes with a 10
th place time of 1:56.45.
The women's team had
Kira Buchler featured in the championship final of the 200 backstroke. The senior finished in 2:04.01 to come in eighth place.
Meghan Speicher participated in the 100 freestyle final, and
Emiley Lynch performed in the 200 meter breaststroke.
Proceedings culminated in the 400 free relays. The Mount men took fourth in a school record setting 3:05.66, and the women finished sixth in 3:32.17.
Bryant University swept the tournament for another year. The Bulldogs men's team won with 920 points and the women captured the title with 746 points.
